Badhaai Do Trailer

Written by Suman Adhikary and Akshat Ghildiala, ‘Badhaai Do’ is a comedy-drama and a spiritual sequel of the film ‘Badhaai Ho’.

The movie highlights the social stigma of homosexuality and Lavender Marriage i.e. marriage between two people where either one or both are of homosexual orientation.

Badhaai Do Review

Badhaai Do is a taboo-breaking initiative that has chosen to be vocal on a bold and out-of-the-box subject, not many Bollywood stars have the courage to take risks by accepting the roles. Rajkumar Rao, Ayushman Khurrana, Bhumi, and Aparshakti Khurana have been rated on the top list of such unorthodox movies.

Ayushman Khurrana’s ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’, ‘Badhaai Ho‘ and ‘Vicky Donor‘; Rajkumar Rao’s ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga‘, and ‘Hum do humare do‘; Bhumi’s ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha‘, ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan‘, and ‘Bala’; Aparshakti Khurana’s ‘Helmet‘ are some similar examples of stressing unusual but acceptable social stigmas.

In the movie, a  matrimonial compromise is made between two individuals to conceal their sexual orientations. There is comedy, emotions, drama, laughter, suspense, thrill, and much more in this 147-minute avant-garde show.

The protagonist Shardul Thakur (Rajkumar Rao) is a macho man with a very manly physique and is a police officer. His mother is a widow and worried about his marriage, which he avoids as he is gay. On the other hand, Suman Singh/Sumi (Bhumika Pandekar) is a physical education teacher and is also a lesbian. They both happen to be members of the LGBTQ+ community.

They both happen to meet in a somewhat predetermined way. Suman is put into a situation where she has to head to the police station to submit a report against a person.

A person has been talking to Suman on a social networking site by concealing his identity and showing himself to be a girl, Sumi being a lesbian is interested in girls rather than boys. On their first date, the truth came out and revealed to Suman that he was a boy and then he blackmails her in many ways.

Sumi’s harassment by the person becomes a motive of the meeting between Sumi and Shardul.

On getting to know each other’s truth about their sexual preferences, both came to terms and decided to marry each other. Since it’s the only way they can get the families off their back who are after them for marriage and also conceal their sexual orientations from society in the Lavender marriage.

Things get suspicious eventually with some twists and spins. Both Suman and Shardul have found their right partners, i.e. Rimjhim (debutant Chum Darang) and Guru Narayan (Gulshan Devaiah) respectively

Both share an amicable bond with each other but some difficult things happen between them that lead to a decision of separation until they both find a baby for adoption.

The baby was adopted by Suman and Rimjhim and this creates a lot of confusion among people who attended the child’s ritual and their families come to know all this in a somewhat troublesome manner. But like most other movies, Badhaai Do finally ends in a happy ending.

Badhaai Do comprises a lot of songs, plenty of emotions, and high profile acting by the leads making it rank very good on the IMDb scale. Both Rajkumar and Bhumi have confidently carried on the roles of gay and lesbian respectively.

The intimate scenes between Bhumi and Rimjhim strike a cord of arousal as both have been performers. On the other hand, Rajkumar had a point to prove i.e. to be a gay and masculine police officer both at the same time. I would say he has successfully done that.

If you are looking for some drama based on obvious reasons and some straightforward sort of stuff, Badhaai Do is a must-to-watch movie.
