Emergency: Character Revelation, Real vs Reel Life
The Striking Similarity Between Real and Reel life Characters of ‘Emergency’
Only recently, Emergency movie has unveiled the curtains from its main characters, the detailed characterization has left Bollywood fans in awe.
The foremost character appeared to be Kangana Ranaut as the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi.
The film’s first look shows how the actress has sunk her teeth into the skin of her character as the late PM Indira Gandhi. The aesthetics, including the wardrobe, and disposition, perfectly cite the former Indian politician, Indira Gandhi (late).
In Emergency, Kangana recounts multi-pronged roles: firstly as Indira Gandhi, then as the producer and director of the film.
Next, come the one and only Anupam Kher, who is playing the role of Jai Prakash Nayaran, an Indian Independence Activist and a renowned political leader.
He is famed for leading an opposing movement against Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the mid-1970s. Anupam, through his arresting glasses, half bald haircut, clean-shaved face, and formal lined waistcoat, flawlessly depicts the personality of Jai Prakash Nayaran.
Then comes Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar. While revealing the character of Pupul Jayakar, Kangana Ranaut, the director noted: “Pupul Jayakar was an author, a very close friend of Mrs. Gandhi. If there is one thread that runs through the film and connects the audiences to the inner world of Mrs. Gandhi, it’s the character of Pupul Jayakar.
Even though the film is a first-person account, it is not a film where somebody is the narrator. Mrs. Gandhi’s interactions with Pupul are the most soulful. They shed light on how she confided her deepest darkest secrets to Pupul Jayakar.
This makes her character an important person in the film called Emergency.”
The next character is Shreyas Talpade as Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was the Indian leader and co-founder of BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party). With his well-creased hair and well-trimmed eyebrows, Shreyas seems to be a carbon copy of Atal Ji.
Shreyas commented on his role, “Atal Ji is one of the most revered, intelligent, learned, influential and the most loved leaders of India and across the world as well. To portray him on screen is not only a big privilege but also a huge honor and definitely a bigger responsibility”.
Last but not least comes Milind Usha Soman as Sam Manekshaw.
Through uniform, his dark cap, heavy mustache, and soulful eyes, it seems as if Sam Manekshaw, the former Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army is alive again.
The movie has already created much hype by revealing its promising star cast, however, the release date is yet to be declared.
