Day 01 – England vs India 2021 – 3rd Test Match

On day 1 of England vs India 2021 – 3rd Test match between India and England, Indian Captain Virat Kohli won the toss & chose to bat first.

India had to face disappointment from the very beginning of the match, it lost KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, skipper Virat Kohli, and Ajinkya Rahane in quick succession, by innings break India were 78/10 in 40.4 overs at Headingley, Leeds England.

England Bowlers were spot on, James Anderson and Craig Overton both took 3 wickets each whereas Ollie Robinson and Sam Curran took 2 wickets.

Rory Burns & Haseeb Hameed, the two English openers scored their fifties, Burns was 10th test fifty.

The scorecard by the end of Day 1:

  1. India in 1st innings was 78/10 in 40.4 overs
  2. England was 120/0 in 42.0 overs, England leading by 42 runs.

Day 02 – England vs India 2021 – 3rd Test Match

On the 2nd day of the test match, England continued where they left, however, India got the first breakthrough when Rory was bowled by Mohammed Shami at 61, England was 135/1 at 50 overs.

Haseeb too got dismissed in 63rd over by Ravinder Jadeja at 68, by Lunch England was 182/2 in 68 overs. David Malan and Joe Root played some good cricket, and both scored a half-century, Malan got out at 70 and England was 298/3 at 94th over.

Malan and Root had 100 runs 3rd wicket partnership. Joe Root scored a century and was bold out by Bumrah at 121.

From the Indian side, Mohammed Shami took 3 wickets whereas Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja took 2 each, Jasprit Bumrah settled with 1 wicket.

The scorecard at the end of day 2:

  1. India in 1st innings was 78/10 in 40.4 overs
  2. England in 1st innings was 423/8 in 129 overs, England leading by 345 runs

Day 03 – England vs India 2021 – 3rd Test Match

On the 3rd day of the test match, England lost 2 wickets early on and concluded the first innings with a score of 432/10 in 132.2 overs. Mohammed Shami dismissed Overton LBW and Jasprit Bumrah bowled Robinson out for a Duck.

India yet against lost an early wicket in the form of K L Rahul at a score of mere 8 runs and by lunch, India was 34/1 in 19 overs. Thereafter, Rohit and Pujara stayed on the crease for a while and scored 50 runs 2nd wicket partnership.

After scoring a half-century Rohit Sharma got out LBW by Robinson in 48th over at a personal score of 59. Skipper Kohli and Pujara registered a 50 runs partnership for the 3rd wicket.

At the end of the day’s play, Kohli and Pujara were unbeaten at 45 and 91 respectively, whereas, India was 215/2 in 80 overs.

  3. India in 2nd innings was 215/2 in 80 overs, India Trail by 139 runs

Day 04 – England vs India 2021 – 3rd Test Match

On the 4th day of the 3rd test match between India and England at Headingley, Leeds England, India continued batting in their 2nd innings.

However, India lost Pujara (LBW Robinson) in the 4th over of the day at 91 (3rd-day closing score), he could not score any run on the 4th day, and India’s score was 215/3 in 83.3 overs.

Soon after Pujara, Kohli too got dismissed by Robinson at 55 and India was 237/4 in 90 overs. Thereafter, no Indian batsmen showed any intent to stay on the crease and were dismissed under 10 runs except Ravindra Jadeja who scored 30 runs.

India was bowled out by England in the 2nd innings at 278 in 99.3 overs. Hence, England won the 3rd test match convincingly by an innings and 76 runs.

From the England side, Ollie Robinson was the match-winner, he took 5 important wickets in the second innings and 7 wickets in the complete match. Craig Overton too took 6 wickets in the match.

  1. India in 1st innings was 78/10 in 40.4 overs
  2. England in 1st innings was 432/8 in 132.2 overs, England leading by 354 runs
  3. India in 2nd innings was 278/10 in 99.3 overs, India lost by an innings and 76 runs

In the test series of 5 matches, India and England now stand at 1 win each and a draw. The first test match was played at Nottingham from 4th-8th august 2021, which resulted in a draw.

The 2nd test match was played at Lord’s from 12th-16th august that India won by 151 runs. The 4th Test Match will be played from 2nd-6th and the 5th Test Match will be played from 10th-14th of September at Oval and Manchester respectively.
