While batting first India could not make use of the power play and lost 3 early wickets at the score of 36 runs. However, skipper Virat Kohli stayed there and had a couple of good partnerships with Surya, Rishabh and Jadeja.
India finally managed to score 151 runs in the designated 20 over.
Pakistan needed 152 runs at the rate of 7.5 runs per over, which would have been difficult if they would have lost early wickets, as India did.
But this time the Pakistan team played sensibly and especially both the openers, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan played very well and did not lose their wicket. Both of them scored half-centuries and India failed to take even a single wicket.
Pakistan scored 152-0 in 17.5 overs and won the first Group match against India by 10 wickets. Most importantly, they secured 2 points and an NRR of +0.973.
Pakistan pace bowler Shaheen Afridi was awarded Man of the Match for taking the 3 most crucial wickets of the Indian squad i.e. of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli.
