IND vs SA 1st Test Match – Day 1 Highlights

IND vs SA 1st test match started today at Centurion, South Africa. For the three test match series, Rohit Sharma, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested due to injuries.

Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss against South African captain Dean Elgarin and choose to bat first.

India is playing with 3 seemers and maybe because of that Shreyas Iyer has not been included in the playing XI.

India’s 1st Innings  

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal opened the innings for India. Both seem to be in fine touch and scored 100 runs partnership in the 35th over with Mayank scoring 59 and Rahul scoring 35 runs.  

Indian lost two consecutive wickets of Mayank (60) and Pujara (0) in the 41st over bowled by Lungi Ngidi. India was 118/2 after 41 overs. 

After the two quick dismissals, Kohli came out to bat with Rahul. They stabilized the innings and added 80 more runs to the total together.

Kohli got dismissed by Ngidi in the 69th over at 35 and India was 203-3 after 69th over. 

In the 78th over Rahul completed his 7th test century, what a classic knock he played.

On day 1 Stumps, India finished 272-3 after 90 overs. KL Rahul is not out at 122 runs whereas Ajinkya Rahane is playing at 40 runs.

On day 2 India was hoping to put a good total on the board but this was not to be and day 2 has been washed off due to rain.

After day 2 wash off due to rain, on day 2 of the test match, the Indian duo of Rahul and Rahane got out early on and India was 291-5 after 97 overs.  

Soon Ashwin and Pant fell down cheaply after scoring 4 and 8 runs respectively. India was 297-7 after 99 overs. 

The tailenders could add only a few runs and India was bowled out at 327 in 105.3 overs. 

From South African bowling Lungi Ngidi took 6 wickets hall and Rabada managed to take 3 wickets.

SA’s 1st Innings  

South African came out to bat but lost captain to Bumrah in the very first over, SA was 2-1 after 1 over. 

Thereafter, Shami stuck bowling Petersen (15 runs) and Markam (13 runs) in the 8th and 12th over respectively.

In the very next over Siraj dismissed van der Dussen at 3. SA was 32-4 after 13 overs.  

Bavuma and de Kock stayed on the crease for a while and took the score past 100 runs. SA lost de Kock after scoring 34 runs to Shardul Thakur, SA was 104-5 after 35 overs. 

They lost another wicket in the form of Mulder in the 43rd over and the score was 133-6.

Bavuma scored a half-century but got dismissed by Shami at 52, SA was 144-7 after 17 overs. 

After that, the tail-enders added 50 odd runs to the total and got all out at 197 runs after 62.3 overs. 

Mohammed Shami took a fifer whereas Bumrah and Thakur took 2 wickets each. Siraj managed to get 1 wicket.

India’s 2nd Innings  

By the end of day 3, India came out to bat for 6 overs but lost Mayank Agarwal to Debutant Jensen in the 6th over.

Thereafter, Shardul Thakur was sent as the night watchman and India finished day 3 with 16-1 after 6 overs.

IND vs SA 1st Test Match – Day 4 Highlights

On day 4 India continued batting with Thakur and Rahul but SA got the 1st breakthrough in terms of Thakur. He was caught in the slips at 10 on a delivery bowled by Rabada. India was 34-2 after 12.5 overs. 

Soon Rahul too was departed by Rabada, he was caught in the slips at 23, India was 54-3 after 22.3 overs. 

Kohli and Pujara were in the middle and stabilized the innings a little bit but just in the first over after the lunch break, India lost Kohli at 18 to Jensen, India was 79-4 after 32.1 overs. 

Rahane and Pujara added 30 odd runs and Pujara was caught by the keeper at 16, bowled by Ngidi, Rahane too was dismissed in quick succession, India was 111-6 after 38.5 overs. 

Rishabh and Ashwin scored some quickies but by the 48th over both were out in the pavilion, India was 166-8 after 48 overs. 

The tailenders added 8 more runs and India was all out for 174 in their second innings. India set a target of 305 for SA to score in 1.5 days left. 

The day belonged to SA and especially to Rabada and Jensen both took 2 wickets.

SA’s 2nd Innings

SA came to bat on day 4, they were given the target of 305 runs. The first blow for them came in the very second over of the innings when Markram was dismissed by Mohammed Shami at just 1 run. SA was 1-1 after 1.3 overs. 

The 2nd wicket fell in the form of Pietersen who was caught behind the stumps on a delivery bowled by Bumrah, he scored 17 runs, SA was 34-2 after 14.1 overs. 

Rassie van der Dussen and Dean Elgar stabilized the innings and added 40 more runs to the total before der Dussen got dismissed by Bumrah at 11, SA was 74-3 after 37 overs.

Keshav Maharaj came in as nightwatchman to avoid any further wicket fall before day 4 ends. However, this didn’t go as planned and SA lost him to Bumrah in the last over of the day, SA was 94-4 after 41 overs. 

The silverlining was that Elgar completed his haf century in the days play, he was at 52 when the day ended.

IND vs SA 1st Test Match – Day 5 Highlights

On day 5 SA needed 211 more runs to win with 6 witckect in hand. On the other side India was determined to win the 1st ever test match at Centurian by bowling SA out before 304 runs. 

Skipper Elgar looked determined along with Bavuma, both scored 36 runs together but Bumrah came to India’s rescue and dismissed Elgar at 77, SA was 130-5 after 51 overs. 

Proteas still needed 175 more runs with 5 wickets in hand, with de Kock and Bavuma at the crease hopes were alive. SA got another blow when Siraj bowled de Kock out for 21 runs and SA was 161-6 after 59.3 overs. 

The last 4 wicket fell very quickly in a span of 10 over and 30 runs, no one stayed on the crease to build a partnership with Bavuma who scored 35 runs and remained not out. 

SA was all out on 191 in 68 overs and India won the first of the 3 test matches by 113 runs, leading the series by 1-0. 

From India bowling side, Bumrah and Shami both took 3 wickets whereas Ashwing and Siraj took 2 wickets each.
