The India vs New Zealand – 2nd test match of the test series started today at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. New Zealand drew the 1st test match by just a margin of the last wicket in Kanpur.

For this test match Ishant Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, and Ravindra Jadeja have been ruled out. However, surprisingly, Virat Kohli will be leading team India in the 2nd India vs New Zealand test. Other replacements were Jayant Yadav and Md. Siraj

The toss took place a little later than planned due to rain in Mumbai. From the Indian side, Kohli tossed the coin whereas from the New Zealand side Tom Latham will be acting captain for the match.
Kohli won the toss and India decided to bat first.

India in 1st Innings
India opened the innings with Mayank Agarwal and Shubhman Gill. Both gave a good start by scoring 50 runs partnership in 18 overs. India’s 1st wicket fell when Gill was caught by Taylor in slips on a delivery bowled by Ajaz Patel, he scored 44 off 71 deliveries, India was 80-1 in 27.3 overs.
In the 30th over Pujara was bowled out by Patel on a golden duct and India was 80-2 in 29.2 overs.
India was not able to overcome the loss of 2 consecutive wickets, shortly came another blow by Patel, Virat Kohli was given LBW out at 0 by the on-field umpire, the captain reviewed the decision but it did not settle in his favor. India was 80-3 after 30 overs.
Shreyas came out to bat along in the middle and in the 37th over Mayank completed his half-century. India was 111-3 after 37 overs after the 1st session of the day.

Mayank kept scoring at a good rate, but again Ajaz Patel gave India another blow by dismissing Iyer at 18, India was 160-4 after 47.4 overs.
Soon after the opener, Mayank Agarwal registered his fourth Test century, India was 192-4 after 58.1 overs.

At the stumps of day 1, Mayank is still batting at 120 alongside Wriddhiman Saha who is at 25. India was 221-4 after 70 over of day’s play.
The Silver lining for the New Zealand bowling was Ajaz Patel’s spell, he took 4 wickets by bowling 29 overs out of which 10 were maidens, he conceded 73 runs at the rate of 2.5 runs per over.

India continued batting with Agarwal and Saha on the 2nd day in the Mumbai test match but lost 2 wickets consecutively in the 2nd over of the day to Ajaz Patel in the form of Saha and Ashwin.
By Now Ajaz picket 6 out of 6 Indian dismissals in his 29.4 overs. India was 224-6 after 72 overs.
Thereafter Mayank and Axar batted well and completed 50 runs partnership. Mayank completed his 150 runs in the 100th over off 311 deliveries, and right after that got dismissed by Ajaz Patel. India was 291-7 after 100 overs.
Axar too got his maiden half-century in the 108th over and got out at 52 in the same over, he was bowled out by Ajaz. India was 316-8 after 108 overs.

Ajaz Patel Historic 10-Wicket Haul
In the 110th over Ajaz Patel took 2 remaining Indian wickets and completed his remarkable spell by taking all 10 wickets of the Indian team. He was the third such player in Test cricket history to achieve the record of taking 10 wickets in an innings. Patel finished with 10-119 from 47.5 overs.

New Zealand in 1st Innings
New Zealand was trailing by 325 runs when they came out to bat on the 2nd day of the 2nd test match at Wankhede, Mumbai.
NZ had a poor start and lost its first wicket in form of Young at 4 in the 4th overs of their innings. He was caught in the slips by Virat on Siraj’s delivery.
In the same over, the 2nd wicket fell in the form of Latham at 10. NZ was in deep trouble with both the openers back in the pavilion at the score of 15 in the 4th over.
Thereafter, the NZ wicket fell like a deck of cards, and no other batsmen except Kyle Jamieson could reach the 2 figure score. NZ was all out in the 29th over by scoring just 62 runs trailing by 263 runs.
From the Indian side, Siraj took 3, Ashwin took 4 and Axar took 2 wickets.

In the 2nd Innings, India opened the batting with Mayank and Pujara as Gill had an injury while fielding at Silly point during NZ innings. Both the openers were unbeaten at 38 and 29 at day 2 stumps. India finished 69-0 in 21 overs at day 2 stumps, leading by 332 runs.

India lost the first wicket in the form of Agarwal at 62 when he was caught in the deep on a delivery bowled by Ajaz. India was 107-1 in the 32nd over.
Pujara too got dismissed at 47 in the 36th over on a delivery bowled by Patel, India was 115-2 after 36 overs.
Gill scored 47 and was dismissed by Rachit in the 60th over, India was 197-3 then.
India lost 4 more wickets and scored 70 odd runs out of which, there were 41 quick runs off 26 deliveries by Axar. They declared the innings at 276-7 after 70 overs and gave NZ a target of 540 runs.
From the New Zealand side, Ajaz again took 3 wickets in his 26 overs whereas Rachit took 3 wickets.

With around 40 overs of play remaining for the day, NZ came to bat, they were to chase 540 runs in 2.5 days to win the test match.
New Zealand, yet again had a disappointing start and lost the captain at 6, NZ was 13-1 after 4 overs. The 2nd wicket fell in the 15th over and NZ was 45-2.
NZ lost 3 more wickets and scored 95 runs in the next 30 overs. On day 3 stumps NZ was 140-5 after 45 overs.

The 4th day of the test match seemed to be a formality as NZ lost 5 wickets by scoring just 27 runs in 12 over.
Ashwin and Jayant both took 4 wickets each in the innings.
India won the match by 372 runs and also won the two test match series by taking a lead of 1-0.
