India vs New Zealand T20 WC 2021 – Pre-match Updates
India after losing their opening game of ICC T20 World Cup 2021 to Pakistan is desperate for a comeback against New Zealand.
On the other hand, New Zealand too lost its last match against Pakistan in ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
The Head to Head record of India against New Zealand is highly inclined towards later. The two teams have faced each other twice in T20 Worldcup and NZ won both the matches.
Moreover, when we look at the ICC world cups (T20s and ODIs), there also NZ has an upper hand, out of 10 encounters, NZ vs IND ratio is 7:3 i.e. New Zealand has won 7 times and India could win 3 matches.
The last time India won against NZ was in 2003, I hope India repeats the history after 18 years.
The seat to Semi-Finals – Calculation for India and NZ
Both India and NZ have played one match till now and both have lost the match against Pakistan, hence they both have 0 points.
Scenario 1
This is a Kind of do-or-die match for both the teams, Assuming, India wins this match, NZ will have 0 points and India will have 2 points and with having 3 matches remaining to be played against Afghanistan, Scotland, and Namibia.
Now again if both India and NZ will win all 3 remaining matches after this, then India end up with a maximum of 8 points and NZ with 6 points.
Pakistan has already won 3 out of 3 and they stand at the first position in the group with 6 points. They just need 2 points to make 8 points and they will be through to Semis.
In this case from group 2, India and Pakistan will be in Semis.
Scenario 2
If NZ wins this match, in that case, Pakistan and NZ will settle in Semis with 8 or more points.
Scenario 3
Afghanistan can play a spoiler if they win either against Namibia and the winner of today, they too will have 6 points along with either NZ or India, In that case, Afghanistan, the NRR will come into play, and currently, Afghanistan has by-par the best NRR of +3.092.
In this case, Pakistan and Afghanistan will move to semis.

India vs New Zealand T20 WC 2021 – Match Details
New Zealand won a very important toss today and has elected to bowl first.
Below are the India and New Zealand Playing XIs that were declared.
India XI: I Kishan, R Sharma, KL Rahul, V Kohli, R Pant, H Pandya, R Jadeja, S Thakur, M Shami, V Chakravarthy, J Bumrah’
New Zealand XI: M Guptill, D Mitchell, K Williamson, J Neesham, D Conway, G Phillips, M Santner, I Sodhi, T Southee, A Milne, T Boult
While batting first India yet again gave a disappointing performance, it was a do-or-die match and India seemed to be under its own pressure. The opening combination was changed, Ishan Kishan opened with Rahul but it did not click. Ishan was dismissed cheaply.
Thereafter, KL Rahul, Rohit, and Virat too could not stay for longer, as a result, India stumbled at 48-4 after 10 overs.
Finally, Pandya and Jadeja took the Indian score to 94 and India finished the innings at 110 for 7 in 20 over.
This score was not a good score by any means and especially for a match that was like the world cup quarter-final.
From New Zealand bowling, Boult took 3 and Sodhi took 2 wickets.
When New Zealand came to bat they were not under any pressure and scored the required runs easily in the 15th over. Their final score was 111-2 in 14.3 overs, NZ won the match against India by 8 wickets.

Now from here, India’s way to semis depends upon other teams, and maybe scenario 3 above could lead India to semis. However, chances are poor.
