Indian Startup Funding Increased By double in H1 2021. The funding in the first half of the year (H1 2021) touched $10.1 billion, it has already exceeded $9.94, which was the total funding raised by the startups in the year 2020.

In a tweet, The Indian government’s startup India portal reported that Indian startups have raised $10.1 billion through 543 deals in the first half of 2021.

Indian Startup Funding – Data Analysis

During the same period last year, the amount was $5.2 Bn across 390 deals. This qualifies as a 2x increase in funding amount as compared to H1 2020 or is equivalent to 95% of the total amount raised during the year 2020.

By looking at the data, it is found that recent funding for startups in India has shown an immense increase. Though the Q1 of 2020 i.e. April to June 2020 was the poorest one for the startups due to covid-19 gloomy lockdown throughout the country.

When it comes to the deals, H1 2021 crossed the historic peak of H1 2016, which according to reports has recorded 578 deals altogether. Whereas, 534 was the total deal count while the total amount raised was $6.3 Bn during the H2 2020.

Referring to an immense rise in capital infusion into early-stage startups, Anuj Golecha, Co-Founder, Venture Catalysts, quoted, “One major factor (for the growth) in my opinion is the emergence of startups founded by second-time entrepreneurs. These founders are already experienced and know how to scale up and this is exactly the reason why the ticket size for early-stage funding is getting larger.”

Sector-wise Summary of Indian Startup Funding Received

Indian startups raised an amount of $4Bn from 311 funding deals during Q1 2021. In 2021, the total funding amount is backed up by mega deals i.e. $100Mn+ is invested in growth & funding rounds in sectors like eCommerce, fintech, enterprise tech, edtech, consumer, services & health tech.

The e-commerce sector was the clear winner that bagged the maximum capital of $4.1 Bn in 2021 so far, fintech followed with $2.3 billion, and logistics not far behind with almost $2 billion.
