As per the guidelines of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the current franchises had to submit their IPL 2022 Retention List by 30th November 2021. 

IPL Trophy

Each of these 8 franchises will have the option of retaining a maximum of four players i.e. they have a capping of retaining a max of three Indians and two overseas out of the 4 players. This means they can’t keep all four Indians or all three foreign players. 

Each franchise is capped with a spending of 90 crores known as the purse value. 

IPL 2022 New Franchises

IPL also has a plan to introduce 2 new franchises Lucknow (owned by Sanjeev Goenka group) and Ahemadabad (owned by CVC Capital) in IPL 2022. These franchises can take 3 players out of the released players after the IPL 2022 Retention List is out. 

IPL Auction 2022

Each of the 10 franchises will go into IPL 2022 mega auctions for which dates are not decided yet. However, tentatively it may happen in the first week of January 2022. 

IPL 2022 Retention List & Released Players

Following the BCCI guidelines, yesterday 7 franchises released their IPL 2022 Retention List except for Delhi Capitals that have already provided the retention list. 

Below is the IPL 2022 Retention List of all 8 franchises. 

Chennai Super Kings

The IPL 2021 champions CSK retained 1 foreign player and 3 Indian players. These are Ravindra Jadeja (16 crores), Dhoni (12 crores), all-rounder Moeen Ali (8 crores), and Ruturaj Gaikwad (6 crores).

CSK released Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, Faf du Plessis, Sam Curran, and Deepak Chahar. The remaining purse value of CSK is 48 crore. 

Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders have retained 2 foreign players and 2 Indian players. These are Andre Russell (12 crores), Venkatesh Iyer (8 crores), and Sunil Narine (6 crores), and Varun Chakravarthy (8 crores).

KKR has released Shubman Gill, Eoin Morgan, Pat Cummins, Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi. The remaining purse value of KKR stands at 48 crores.     

Royal Challengers Bangalore

RCB has retained 1 foreign and 2 Indian players in the form of Virat Kohli (15 crores), Glenn Maxwell (11 crores), and Mohammed Siraj (7 crores).

They have released Harshal Patel, Devdutt Padikkal, and Yuzvendra Chahal. Their remaining purse value stands at 57 crores. 

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals have retained 3 Indian and 1 foreign player. They retained Rishabh Pant (16 crores), Prithvi Shaw (7.5 crores), Axar Patel (9 crores), and Anrich Nortje (6.5 crores).

Delhi Capitals have released Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Steve Smith, Ravichandran Ashwin, Marcus Stoinis, Kagiso Rabada. Their remaining purse value is 47.5 crore. 

Punjab Kings 

Punjab Kings have retained 2 Indian players i.e. Mayank Agarwal (12 crores) and  Arshdeep Singh (4 crores). 

They released KL Rahul who wanted to be a part of Auctions. Their remaining purse value is 72 crore. 

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have retained 3 Indians and 1 foreign player as Rohit Sharma (16 crores), Kieron Pollard (6 crores), Suryakumar Yadav (8 crores), and Jasprit Bumrah (12 crores).

MI has released Ishan Kishan, Trent Boult, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya. The remaining purse value of MI is 48 crore.   

Rajasthan Royals

RR has kept 1 foreign and 2 Indian players in the form of Sanju Samson (14 crores), England star batter Jos Buttler (10 crores), and Yashasvi Jaiswal (4 crores)

RR has released Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, and Mustafizur Rahman. Their remaining purse value stands at 62 crores. 

Sun Risers Hyderabad

SRH has retained 1 foreign and 2 Indian Players in the form of Kane Williamson (14 crores), Abdul Samad ( 4 crores), and Umran Malik ( 4 crores).

SRH has released David Warner, Rashid Khan, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Holder, and Jason Roy, Kedar Jadhav, Manish Pandey, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The remaining purse value of SRH is 68 crore.
