The Mumbai Indians led by Rohit Sharma shocked their fans after losing their 8th consecutive match in IPL 2022. This is a record as no team has lost the 8 consecutive matches in IPL history.

Their last match was on 24th April Sunday when the team lost against the LSG by 36 runs.

The Reason behind Mumbai Indians Poor Performance in IPL 2022

There are several different reasons behind the lack of MI performance this season. The main reason is that the star players such as Quinton de Kock, Hardik Pandya, Trent Boult, and Kunal Pandya that were associated with MI for the last few seasons are not a part of the squad this season.

Hardik Pandya is leading Gujarat Titans, Boult is with RR, whereas Krunal and Quinton have been a part of LSG.

In one of the statements, Former England player Kevin Peterson criticized Mumbai Indians for messing up at the IPL 2022 mega auction and weakening their bowling.

Also, the current star players of the team such as Kieron Pollard and Ishan Kishan are performing poorly.

On the other hand, the skipper Rohit Sharma failed to perform this season with the bat and he only managed to score 108 runs only in 5 matches. This is the time that the team needed him the most.

Another important reason is that the team lacks spin bowling and is weak in this department. Currently, the team is only dependent on fast bowling and that too on Jaspreet Bumrah and Jaidev Unnadkat who are not taking wickets in the powerplay.

In addition to this, Twitterati presented their own reason for Mumbai Indians’ failure this season, one of the users said:

Another one came with a video where MI (understandably) struggled to taste even a single win.

Can Mumbai Indians Qualify for Top 4 in IPL 2022

Well, if we look at the points table, MI is in the last position with 0 points and an NRR of -1.000, practically MI can’t qualify, however, theoretically, they still have a chance.

There are still 6 games remaining for the team and they have to win all the six with superb run rates. Moreover, the winning or losing of the other dominant teams will also affect the qualification of MI.

Before the current season, MI was one of the dominant and most successful teams in the IPL winning a total of 5 IPL titles all under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. This is sad to see such a successful team in this situation, however, all we can do is hope for the best.
