Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals, the 46th IPL match will be played on 2nd October 2021 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, UAE.

Head to Head comparison of Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals shows that out of 29 matches played between them, MI convincingly won 16 times and DC managed to win on 13 occasions.

However, the current form of DC does not justify the previous record, DC has 16 points and stands tall at 2nd position in the IPL points table, and they have already qualified the DC for the playoffs.

On the other hand, Mumbai is struggling to gain momentum this IPL season. It stands at 10 points below KKR and PBKS in the points table. 

MI vs DC Match Details

Rishabh Pant, the captain of Delhi Capitals (DC) won the toss and decided to bowl first. Delhi has brought Prithvi Shaw back in place of Lalit Yadav. 

The MI has made 1 change in the playing XI, Jayant Yadav comes in place of Rahul Chahar.

MI after losing the toss was put on the bat first by DC, It proved to be a slow playing wicket and MI also kept on losing wickets, they finished 129-8 after 20 overs. 

Delhi needed 130 runs a the rate of 6.5 runs per over, they too struggled initially but because the target was not very big, in the end, Delhi won by 4 wickets with 5 balls spared, the final score for DC was 132-6 after 19.1 overs.  

Axar Patel won the Man of the Match award for his bowling figures taking 3 wickets in his 4 overs for 21 runs.

MI Innings 

MI after losing the toss was put on the bat first by DC, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock came out to open for Mumbai. 

Rohit started the innings by hitting a boundary on the first ball of the over of Nortje, MI was 7-0 after 1 over. 

In the second over Avesh Khan bowled out Rohit at 7, MI was 12-1 after 2 over. 

Suryakumar Yadav replace Rohit in the middle and hoped to do better than earlier matches he has played in IPL Phase 2.

Both Quinton and Surya batted together for a couple of overs and scored 25 runs when de Kock was dismissed in the 7th over by Axar at 19, MI was 40-2 after 7 over. 

With both the openers back in the pavilion Mumbai was hoping for some performance by middle order.

Saurabh Tiwary joined Surya and both batted well till the 11th over when Axar took his second wicket in the form of Surya at 33, MI was 73-3 after 11 over. 

Axar Patel struck a third time in the 13th over and dismissed in-form batsmen Tiwari at 15, MI was 80-4 after 13 overs. 

Now two new batsmen Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya were in the middle, they are known as hard-hitters but now was the time to stay for a couple of overs and then launch the attack. 

This time it was Nortje’s turn, he castled Pollard at 6, MI was struggling at 87-5 after 15 overs. 

Krunal Pandya replaced pollard and thereafter Pandya brothers added just 22 runs together to the total

In the 19th over Hardik and Coulter-Nile were departed at 17 and 1 respectively by Avesh Khan, Avesh took 3 wickets. MI was lagging at 116-7 in 19 overs. 

In the last over MI scored 13 runs and lost the wicket of Jayant Yadav at 11 to Ashwin, MI finished 129-8 after 20 overs.

DC Innings

Delhi needed 130 runs a the rate of 6.5 runs per over, this was not a very big ask but the wicket was playing slow so it can become a challenge if Delhi loses early wickets. 

Delhi opened the innings with Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan, Shaw hit Boult for a boundary in the first over, DC was 6-0 after 1 over. 

In the 2nd over DC lost Dhawan, he was run out by Pollard at 8, Steve Smith came in the middle after the dismissal, DC was 14-1 after 2 overs. 

In the very next over, Prithvi Shaw was LBWed by Krunal at 6, both the openers were back in the pavilion scoring little runs, DC was 21-2 after 3 overs. 

Smith and Rishabh Pant had to stay at the wicket for longer but Smith was dismissed by Nathan Coulter-Nile for 9, DC was 35-3 after 5 overs. 

The fixture was turning out to be a fighting total for Mumbai, DC still needed 95 runs to win the 90 balls, It was not a big ask but if Delhi kept losing wickets it will be difficult to achieve the target. 

Shreyas Iyer and Pant played together for a couple of overs and DC lost Pant to Jayant Yadav in the 9th over at 26, DC was 60-4 after 9 overs. 

Axar Patel replaced Pant but he was departed soon by Boult in the 12 over at 9, DC was 80-5 after 12 overs. 

With half of the team out in the pavilion, DC still needed 40 runs in 48 balls, Delhi only needed not to lose wickets rest was manageable easily. 

Shimron Hetmyer came in and hit a couple of boundaries, he was dismissed by Bumrah at 15, DC was 94-6 after 14 overs. 

In the end, Ravichandran Ashwin and Iyer built the required partnership and finished scoring 132 runs in the 20th over, Delhi won by 4 wickets and 5 balls spared, the final score for DC was 132-6 after 19.1 overs.
