Tokyo Olympics 2021 Day 4 – India at Olympics Today
Today, Indian Athletes participated in games such as Boxing, Table Tennis, Shooting, Hockey, Swimming, and Badminton.
Boxing
In the preliminary round of 16, the Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) advanced to the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Olympics 2020. In her debut Olympic appearance Lovlina clashed against Nadine of Germany.
India won the game and Lovlina scored 03 points whereas, Nadine scored just 02 points. Indeed, a great achievement by a debutant at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Boxer Lovlina Borgohain is just a step away from winning an Olympics medal now. She will be playing against Nien-Chin Chen of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinal on July 30th, 2021.
Shooting
Mixed 10m air pistol & rifle qualification rounds were played today at Tokyo Olympics 2020. All the Indian shooters were knocked out of the game. China remained gold medalist, Russia got a silver medal, Ukraine settled with a bronze medal.
Saurabh and Manu finished 7th in qualification round 2. However, Abhishek and Yashaswini couldn’t even make up through the 1st hurdle. Elavenil-Divyansh and Anjum-Deepak failed to qualify as well.
At the beginning of the day, when Manu and Saurabh topped during the qualifying round 01, it seemed as if Indian shooters are gonna win the game. Unfortunately, it did not happen this time. Raninder Singh, president of The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) said, “There will be a complete overhaul of coaching staff”
Table Tennis
The round 3 of the men’s singles table Tennis tournament, India’s Sharath Kamal Achanta was played against Ma Long of China. China won the match by winning the last 3 games consecutively. The final score remains 4-1, whereas the individual game score was 11-7, 8-11, 13-11, 11-4, 11-4.
Indian table tennis lovers had great expectations from Achanta, yet, his defeat brought out disappointment to his fans.
Hockey
Men’s hockey pool A match was played between India and Spain. India scored 3 goals whereas Spain could not score any. Team India compensated for its defeat against Australia in the last match by some brilliant performance by Simranjeet Singh & Rupinder Pal Singh who scored a winning goal during the game.
Spain went for the goal during the second quarter of the match but Indians didn’t allow them to score any goal.
Badminton
In Men’s double Group Play Stage – Group A game, Indian shuttlers Chirag Shetty & Satwiksairaj Rankireddy were against Great Britain’s Sean Vendy & Ben Lane. Shetty and Satwiksairaj won the match by 2-0 by winning two straight games by 21-17 and 21-19.
All the Indian badminton fans out there were seen elated as many of them appreciated the success of their favorite players.
