Tokyo Olympics 2021 – Day 1: As the journey is progressing, India is hopeful of winning some medals. In fact, Mirabai Chanu has won the first silver medal today in the 49 kg women’s weightlifting category.

Below are some more snapshots of India’s participants/athletes.

Weightlifting

26-year-old, Mirabai Chanu from team India won a silver medal in Women’s 49kg Weightlifting. 

After her medal-winning achievement, Mirabai Chanu said, “I have been dreaming of this for the past five years. I am very proud of myself right now. I did try for gold but even silver is a great achievement for me. I am very happy to win the first medal for India at these Games. I don’t just belong to Manipur, I belong to the whole country”

Boxing

India versus Japan in Men’s Welter (63-69kg) Preliminaries – Round of 32. India’s boxer Vikas Krishan lost to Sewonrets Quincy Mensah Okazawa, a Japanese boxer on the second day.  Okazawa defeated Vikas Krishan by 5-0. During the bout Vikas got a small cut on the top of his left eye, he is reported to be fine.

Hockey

India Women’s hockey team was against World no.1 Netherlands. Unfortunately, they lost by 5-1. By the first half, the Indians and Netherlands were at 1-1, but in the second half of the game, the Netherlands played magnificently and scored 4, whereas, India could not score any.

Table Tennis

In Women’s Table Tennis Singe Round 1, Sutirtha Mukherjee from India rallied from being 1-3 down to defeat Linda Bergstrom from team Sweden 4-3 in a thriller. Sutritha registered a scintillating win against the opponent by 5-11,11-9,11-13, 9-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-5.

Archery

In archery, Mixed Quarterfinals, India was playing against South Korea. Pravin Jadhav and Deepika Kumari were against Korea’s AN San and KIM Je Deok. Indian archers managed to score 2 while Koreans scored 6 and won the quarterfinals.

Badminton

In men’s singles badminton, India’s B. Sai Praneeth played the group stage match against Israel. M. Zilberman. Israel won by 2-0.

In men’s doubles, India faced China on a group stage. Chirag Shetty & Satwiksairaj Rankireddy from India’s side played Lee Yang & Wang Chi-ling from China. India’s shuttlers won by 2-1.

Judo

In Women’s Judo, Hungry & India faced each other. The game was played between Éva Csernoviczki of Hungary and Shushila Likmabam of India. Hungary defeated India by 10s1.

Rowing

The Indian rowing duo of Arvind Singh and Arjun Lal Jat qualified for the repechage round after completing 5th in the men’s lightweight double sculls heat. Competing in heat two, the Indian rowers completed within a time period of 6:40.33 in the 06 team field, failing to qualify for the semi-finals.

The top two teams that are Ireland & Czech Republic – moved to the semi-finals, while Poland, Ukraine & Uruguay moved to the repechage round along with India.

Shooting

The 19-year-old, Saurabh Chaudhary from India topped the ranks with 586 points in the qualification round of Men’s 10m Air Pistol. He couldn’t make up the medal tally and finished 7th with 137.4 points in the final at the Tokyo Olympics on the 24th of July.

Abhishek Verma, another shooter from India couldn’t qualify for the final round, he scored 575 points.
