Tokyo Olympics 2021 Day 10: The games started on the 24th of July and the excitement is at its peak in the last leg of the mega event.

Indian women’s hockey team reached Semis, and Indian Athlete Kamalpreet Kaur performed at the big stage but could not convert her outstanding performance to an Olympic medal. 

India was scheduled for today in Athletics, Hockey, Shooting, Equestrian.

Tokyo Olympics 2021 Day 10 – India at Olympics Today

Some Updates regarding today’s games played by the team India at Tokyo Olympics 2020 are as follows:

Athletics 

In today’s event of the Athletics Women’s 200m round 01, Heat 04, at Tokyo Olympics 2020. Indian athlete Dutee Chand completed the sprint in 23.85s. She finished 7th in her heat and 38th overall out of 41 athletes. Hence, she could not find a slot in the semis.

From the heat 04, C. Mboma from Namibia, G. Thomas from the United States, and A. Seyni from Nigeria qualified for semis by finishing the sprint in 22.11s, 22.20s, and 22.72s respectively.

In the women’s discus throw finals, Indian athlete, Kamalpreet Kaur stood sixth with a remarkable throw of 63.70m. This is for the second time in Indian Olympics history, the women’s discus throw athlete has reached the sixth position. Earlier in the 2012 London Olympics Krishna Poonia also finished sixth in the discus throw.

Hockey 

In the knockout round of the Women’s Hockey tournament, India beat Australia in the quarterfinals at Oi Hockey Stadium by 1-0. India’s victory against Australia has opened the doors to Semi-Finale at Tokyo Olympics 2020. The only goal scored in the match was scored by India’s Gurjit Kaur in the second quarter of the match.

This is a remarkable achievement for Indian hockey, both men’s and women’s hockey teams are in the semis of the Olympics 2020. India men’s team will be playing the semi-final against Belgium on 3rd August 2021. Whereas the women’s semi-final will be against Argentina on the 4th of August. Both the teams are just a win away from the Olympics medal.

On the lighter note:-) On Twitter, humor broke out when the Indian Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan exchanged tweets with Indian women’s hockey head coach, Sjoerd Marijne.

The head coach had shared a photograph with the Indian team with the caption “Sorry family , I coming again later”. Shahrukh Khan quote tweeted saying, “Haan haan no problem. Just bring some Gold on your way back….for a billion family members. This time Dhanteras is also on 2nd Nov. From: Ex-coach Kabir Khan.”

Shooting

In the Men’s 50m rifle qualification round today at Tokyo Olympics 2020. Indian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar remained at 21st position out of 39, scoring 1167 points. He couldn’t qualify for the next round.

The top 8 shooters that qualified for the next round were, Sergey Kamensky from Russia, Zhang Changhong from China, Jon-Hermann Hegg from Norway, Milenko Sebić from Serbia, Miran Maričić from Croatia, Serhiy Kulish from Ukraine, Petar Gorša from Croatia & Yury Shcherbatsevich from Belarus

Equestrian

In the Individual eventing, jumping qualifier at Tokyo Olympics 2020, Fouaad Mirza remained twenty-fifth among forty-four countries by scoring 08.00 points & 47.20 penalties. Hence, he made it to the next round (final).

Thereafter, in the Individual eventing jumping final, Indian athlete, Fouaad Hyder Mirza remained at 23rd position with 59.60 penalties. Julia Krajewski from Germany secured the gold medal, Tom McEwen from Great Britain got silver medal while Andrew Hoy managed to get bronze.
