Tokyo Olympics 2021 Day 2: Athletes from India are participating in events such as Shooting, Hockey, Table Tennis, Swimming, Badminton, Boxing.

Tokyo Olympics 2021 Day 2 – India at Olympics Today

Earlier on Saturday, India has scored well wherein Weightlifting Mirabai Chanu has won a silver medal in the 49kg category.

Today’s performance by Indian athletes in various games:

Table Tennis  

In table tennis Women Single Round 2, India’s Manika Batra played against Ukraine’s Margaryta Pesotska. Manika convincingly knocked Nargaryta out in the match by 4-3. The final score remained, 4-11, 4-11, 11-7, 12-10, 8-11, 11-5, 11-7.

In table tennis Men’s Single Round 2, India lost the match against Hong Kong by 3-4. Gnanasekaran Sathiyan from India was againt Lam Siu from Hong Kong. Hong Kong’s Lam Siu Hong defeated Sathiyan in a match of thorns. Lam vs Sathiyan final score remained, 11-7, 7-11, 4-11, 5-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-6.

Hockey

The Men’s Pool A Hockey match between India & Australia finished with a setback for Indian Hockey Team. The top-notch Australian team proved to be a tough nut to crack for India, and India lost to Australia with a huge margin of 7-0. Team India defeated New Zealand with a score of 3-2 during its first match.

Boxing 

In the Women’s preliminary round of 32, the bout was held between India’s superstar boxer, Mary Kom, and Republic of Dominica boxer Hernandez Garcia.

The 38-year-old Mary Kom won her 1st match at Tokyo Olympics 2020. The score of the match between Mary Kom and García closed at 4–1. With this win, Mary Kom has marched into the final 16.

Tennis

In the First Round of Women’s Doubles, Indian pair Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina were up against Ukrainian pair Nadiia and Liudmyla Kichenok. In the one hour plus 33 minutes nailbiter, Sania and Ankita won the first set by making the score 6-0, while, in the second set Ukrain bounced back and won by 7-6. The decider set drifted in favor of Nadiia and Liudmyla Kichenok by 10-8

Badminton 

In the Women’s Singles Group play stage India’s ace shuttler Pusarla Venkata (P. V. Sindhu) was up against Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova. In Group J, Sindhu defeated Polikarpova by 2-0. The games scores were 21-7 and 21-10. Sindhu will be playing against Cheung Ngan Yi on Wednesday.

Shooting

Manu Bhaker the Indian shooter failed to make it to the final of the Olympics 10m Range Shooting event. The electronic trigger of her pistol reportedly had a circuit malfunction in the mid of the second qualifying round. The top 8 shooters out of 53 were to qualify for the final, Manu ended 12th with 575 points.
