Tokyo Olympics 2021 Day 3 – India at Olympics Today
Indian athletes participated in Fencing, Hockey, Table Tennis, Swimming, Badminton, Archery, Swimming, and Boxing.
Today’s performance by Indian athletes in various games:
Fencing
In women fencing – sabre Individual table of 64, India’s debutant Bhavani Devi played against Tunisia. To everyone surprise, Bhavani Devi won the debut match against Ben Azizi from Tunisia by 15-3.
Bhavani, the first-ever fencer to represent India at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 lost the bout during the next round (women’s individual Sabre table of 32) against France’s fencer Manon Brunet by 15/7.
Hockey
Today, in the Pool A game, the Indian Women’s hockey team was against the Rio Olympic bronze medalist Germany. It was a cakewalk for Germany as India was never in control of the game. India lost the match by 3-0.
Table Tennis
Manika Batra registered a convincing win against Ukraine in the last match. Unfortunately, she failed today to keep the winning streak and lost to Austria’s shuttler Sofia Polcanova in women’s singles round 3 by 4-0.
In the men’s singles round 2, Sharath Kamal Achanta from India played against Tiago Apolónia from Portugal. won the match by 4-2. The set’s score remained 2-11,-11-9-11,-11-6, 11-6.
In another women’s singles round 2 match, Indian shuttler Sutirtha Mukherjee lost by 4-0. She lost all 4 straight sets by 11-3, 11-3, 11-5, and 11-5.
Archery
In Men’s 1/8 Elimination, Indian archers Atanu Das, Pravin Jadhav, and Tarundeep Rai won against Kazakhstan trio Ilfat, Denis, and Sanzhar by a margin of 6-2. However, the happiness was short-lived and during the quarter-finals, Indian archers that played against South Korea lost by 6-0. Archers Kim Woo-jin, Kim Je Deok, and Oh Jin-Hyek represented Korea.
Boxing
In the men’s middleweight round of 77, Indian boxer Ashish Kumar faced Chinese boxer Tuoheta Erbieke. China defeated India and the score remained 5/0.
Badminton
In the men’s double Group stage match, Indian shuttles Satwiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty were against Indonesians Marcus Fernaldi Gideon & Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo. Indonesia won the match by 2-0, and the set’s score was 21-13 and 21-12 respectively.
Swimming
For the men’s 200m butterfly heat 2, Indian swimmer S. Prakash finished the heat at 4th position with a timing of 1:57.22. He lagged by 0.92s from Norway swimmer Hvas, who completed it at 1:56.30s.
