Tokyo Olympics 2021 Day 7 – India at Olympics Today
The performance of Indian athletes in some games at Tokyo Olympics 2021 Day 7 are as under:
Badminton
At Tokyo Olympics 2020, a women’s badminton singles quarterfinal match was played between India and Japan. Indian shuttler and Rio silver medalist, P. V. Sindhu clashed against Japanese opponent Akane Yamaguchi at Musashino Forest Plaza.
During the nail-biting 56-minute quarter-final match, Sindhu won the match by 2-0 by winning both the games with 21-13 and 22-20. She has withheld India’s hopes of winning an Olympic Gold by cementing its slot in the top 4 of Badminton women’s singles.
Sindhu will be playing the next match against Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying who is the winner of the quarterfinal between Thailand and Taipei.
Hockey
Indian men’s hockey team played against Japan today in men’s pool A match. Japan had the benefit of favorites and home ground. Yet, India registered a win by 5-3. making Indian hockey fans elated. Thus, keeping alive their mood and interest in follow-up matches of Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Indian men’s hockey finished their group at the second spot and convincingly moved to the quarterfinals. The men’s hockey quarterfinal will have a face-off against Great Britain on 1st Aug 2021.
On The other hand, the Indian women’s hockey team after 3 initial losses against the Netherlands, Germany, and Great Britain registered their first victory of the Tokyo Olympics 2020, against Ireland by 1-0. Their next pool match is against South Africa tomorrow 31st July 2021.
Boxing
In the women’s welter 64-69kg category quarterfinal, Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain defeated Chen Nien-Chin of Chinese Taipei’s by 4-1, scoring 30-27, 29-28, 28-29, 30-27, and 30-27.
She has assured herself a place in the Semifinals of women’s boxing at Olympics 2020 and secured at least a bronze medal in the 69kg category for India. She would be only the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics.
Athletics
During men’s, 3000m Steeplechase Round 1 – Heat 2, Indian athlete Avinash Sable finished 7th with a new National Record of 8 minutes 18.12 seconds. Unfortunately, he couldn’t secure direct qualification to the finals.
In the men’s Mixed 4x400m Relay India’s MP Jasbir and Dutee Chand could not make it to the finals.
During women’s 100m round 01, India Dutee Chand could only manage the seventh position by completing in 11.54s. Hence, couldn’t qualify for the next round.
Shooting
Indian shooter Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat were disappointed today in the 25m Pistol Women’s Qualification/Rapid fire round, both failed to qualify in top-8. Manu Bhaker scored 582 while Sarnobat managed to score 573, missing the cutoff of 584. Unfortunately, they will return home without a medal.
Archery
Today in the 1/8 elimination round, Indian Archer Deepika Kumari won by 6-5 competing against Russian Archer Ksenia Perova. The win came after the final one arrow shoot-off win by Deepika, she sealed a berth in the quarterfinal.
However, in the quarterfinals, Deepika was knocked out by the Korean Archer An San by 6-0. Another medal opportunity is missed by India.
