Uunchai – Challenging the Strength Within

Directed by Sooraj B. Uunchai showcases the strength within that equips one to conquer the Everests outside. It’s about friendship, complex human behavior & relationships, & subtle humor.
Uunchai is the story of 3 friends namely Amit Shirivastav (Amitabh Bachchan), Javed(Boman Irani), and Om Sharma(Anupum Kher) who set out to fulfill the last desire of their friend Bhupen (Danny Denzongpa).
The story revolves around the friends, their friendship, and their love for each other. The way they treat each other is something very special and their relationship with each other is dearer to them than their families.
The plot of the story is such that, on his birthday Bhupen expresses his desire to hike to the Everest Base Camp along with three of them. But they all refuse due to their advanced ages. The former dies that night and they find tickets to the base camp in Bhupen’s belongings.
Amit then insists that they must fulfill the last wish of their friend and immerse Bhupen’s ashes at the base camp in the Himalayas. After some resistance, the three of them agree to plan a trek to the Everest Base Camp in Nepal so that their friend is at peace.
Unaware of their complete plan Javed’s wife Shabina (Neena Gupta) also accompanies them to meet and stay with her daughter for some time in Kanpur as they travel to Nepal. What happens next forms the rest of the story.
The director has successfully evoked humor on unexpected occasions which makes it even crispier. The adept use of instrumental music strikes the right cords. Anupam’s hostile personality & comic timing, Amitabh’s boldface that hides painful layers underneath, Boman & Neena as an inseparable couple, Sarika’s guilt, & Parineeti’s authority all gel together to create a watchable experience.
The movie inspires everyone that age is just a number and if one has willpower then conquering Everest too is possible.
